After much sorting through the existing piles of clothing, equipment and essentials, and following the decision by Greg to mow the lawn before leaving, we have finally set off on our trip.... after dropping off the bag of rubbish for Mum to dispose of ..... "Gosh, Mum's are great :)"
Having left at 1pm, we have found our way to Moree and their wonderful Mineral Springs. Good relaxation, with temperatures from 34*C to 39*C in each individual pool.
Rained all night, but hey.... where would we be without the rain!
THURSDAY, 3rd May 2012 (8*C - 18.5*C, Moree to Dubbo, NSW)
Left Moree and travelled South to Dubbo via Bellatta, Coonabarabran and Gilgandra. Stopped for fuel at Coonabarabran (really cold wind blowing here) and then lunched at the roadside rest stop at Tooraweenah turnoff. Lots of signs by the Coonabarabran Observatory depicting the planets in our Solar system.
Greg mentioned idly that it was taking a little time to get used to returning the caravan waves from their drivers and passengers. Thought it a good idea to wave myself next time (afte seeing so many other wives doing that as we passed them) so I waved excitedly at the next towing vehicle and said to Greg "You didn't wave, Honey!" and he looked at me with a rather bemused smile and commented "That was a trailer, not a caravan, Sweetie!" Ah! well.....
Arrived at Dubbo about 3.30pm and set up at the Big4 Parklands Caravan Park. Very nice park and amenities. Quite cold here tonight.
Repairs needed on the awning we noticed ..... *God love him, he can actually sew!*
FRIDAY, 4th May 2012 (Dubbo, NSW)
Going out today ..... Whoo hoo! (ah! darn it (forgot the amenities key... again! Thank goodness for the nice lady who believed I must be staying at the park too and let me in hehehe!)
Today Taronga's Western Plains Zoo has been graced with our gracious appearance, and a very nice day I must say was had by us both. I'm sure they were delighted to see us also.
Congratulations must go to the staff and volunteers of the Zoo for their wonderful work and dedication to the resident animals, especially with all the rest areas catering for all their comforts ..........................
Full credit must go to these people though, for their cheerful attitudes and pride in their work. The "happy" residents are very keen to show their appreciation, as seen here with "Happy", the 26 yr old Hippo.
It does bear mentioning here, that if you are travelling with littlies, sending a scout ahead into the tortoise area could be worth the effort unless you would like to enter into a "birds and the bees" episode. Albeit, if there is loud noised coming from the enclosure, maybe just by-pass for a few hours (up to 5 apparently...)
"Piggy-back rides in Galapagos"
Not to be outdone, Dinosauric looking lizard sticks in grass DO NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT TO BE BELIEVED ............ *lol* (especially when you are sure it's head just moved)
All in all, it was a day that was really enjoyable and as you can see by these last two pics, the animals are certainly well cared for and content.
Beautiful Black-maned Lion
AH WELL, Tomorrow off to Oberon (where it's bound to be colder hehehe!)
STAY TUNED .................................
