Fowler's Bay & Head of Bight

3rd June, 2012
from Fowler's Bay to Head of Bight

Last night we stopped at Fowler's Bay in South Australia.  What a great little spot here.  Owners Rod and Simone Keogh put on a great "Cook-up" for us and the other campers staying here with a wonderful fire, bbq baked Salmon, Sausages and Salad.

Simone in middle in blue jacket with Rod on right in black with their little daughter (so sorry guys, I have forgotten your gorgeous little girl's name).

And we had a super time with a sing-a-long after dinner and a dance too.

Funnily enough, as many of you know a few years ago when Greg and I did a trip to the Yorke & Eyre Penninsulas in South Australia, we visited the little community of Baird Bay and went swimming on the Eco-
tour with the Sea Lions and Dolphins, which as you also know I still yap about to this day as being one of the best things I have ever done.  http://www.bairdbay.com/generalinfo.htm
Well, guess what.  Simone and  Rod's mum and dad are Alan & Trish Payne, (who own and run that tour).  What a small world.

Rod and Simone offer Whale watching tours when the Southern Right Whales grace the bay with their presence in winter, along with fishing and they have this really cool little caravan park where you can stay too.  A World of Adventure All In One Small Bay!

Check out this sand dune behind the Park!
Whoo Hoo! kids (and big kids) can't you have a great time on this *lol* all you need is a big piece of cardboard and lots of stamina to get back up to the top!

These salt pans brought back memories of our African trip to the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and the night we slept in the double bed in the middle of the Pan.

Can just imagine Rod and Simone setting up this in the middle of summer in Fowler's Bay!  (True Eco-experience when the whales are not in the bay *lol*)

On leaving Fowler's Bay the next day we stopped at the Nundroo Roadhouse Service Station to fill up before heading over the Nullabour.
As we drove in there was a big truck filling up and he asked if we would like to share his bowser by filling up with him.  By doing so we were able to pay him and get the truckies discount as he was able to make his 500 litre minimum purchase and not have to pay the $1.61/ltr.

While the boys filled the tanks, I took the opportunity to check out the licensed dining room in the roadhouse.  Wow whee!  What a menu (Italian, Greek, Ozzie & American, all with desserts to match and a menu to outshine some of the top restaurants).

After filling up we made our way to the Bunda Cliffs and the Head of Bight.  We checked out a few nice views.

Following some tracks down to the cliff face from the highway looking for a nice campsite for the night.  Finally found a great spot to set up for the night (overlooking the Great Australian Bight Marine Conservation Park)

Having just got a black out here in the park we are in at Bremer Bay, I will get back to you again when power re-establishes with the campsite pics and further travels ............... xoxo
