To ESPERANCE,WA

Tuesday, 5th June 2012
We noticed at Mundrabilla that we had travelled 6,60 kms so far. (Incidental information for those of you who are keeping track of our mileage *lol*)
We stopped at Caiguna Road house last night and it RAINED!  Red/Orange clay, very ordinary I can tell you (But the showers were awesomely hot and enjoyable too!)

Fueling up at $1.93/litre, (and $4.50 for a Small pkt of M&M Peanuts and $3.50 for a small pkt of Smiths Crisps), we took off bound for Esperance.

There have been more rainbows on this road than I've seen in 12 months back home.  Every few minutes there is a new one and some are full semi-circles!  (IF ONLY WE COULD FIND THE END OF THEM, and not the one that Greg has)

Zooming along (as much as you can do with a caravan in tow), we come to the long straight!   But who ever thought this area was a treeless plain obviously lived long ago.  We were surprised at the amount of low trees and shrubs as we expected next to nothing at all along this section of the road.  And off to our right there was a ridge that the road seemed to follow.

This  was the only eagle we saw on the trip too, followed closely by it's mate.
Several crows and many, many feral cats though.
We stopped for fuel and a coffee break at Belladonia Road House.  I had a look in the museum there which showed a lot of information about the camels and the Afghans whom came over with them.

It mentioned that no-one knew if camels could swim, so they through one overboard to see what would happen.  It promptly rolled onto it's side and swam to the mainland and that's how they unloaded the rest of the team.

They also gave some pretty good info on how to determin what animal has been scouting around your camp during the night!

There were many areas like this that have a sign just before announcing that it is the emergency landing for the Royal Flying Doctors Service.  Usually one before or just after each town/roadhouse/community.

Greg commented that you could almost land a Jumbo on these strips of road.
