Now the Island's the limit ...............Whoo Hoo
Have no idea what I'm looking at here, but the scooter has sure had a work out
These cute guys are anywhere and everywhere |

See what I mean (on the trees even!) |
These people were surfing at high tide where the day before we saw at low tide masses of coral reef right under those waves.
This is the coral that is under those waves.Inland on West Island behind the airstrip |
Talking with Nek during Ossie's Home Island tour we were able to arrange a day fishing with Nek. By now we had the scooter, so we were able to meet him at the jetty. Nek had to come across from Main Island to pick us up and then we headed out into the lagoon for some fishing.

Kylie & Ash's Canoe Safari
Up bright & early on Monday morning we left with Kylie at around 6am for the 4 hour canoe safari.
Being our last day on Cocos, we were exceptionally glad to see the day dawning beautiful and clear for us.
Early morning on the water is just wonderful
As we made our way over the first island, the sun rose and the water became the most brilliant aqua imagineable.
Arriving on the first little island, Pulu Maria, Kylie and her friend Vicki presented us with a Champagne, pancake and ham/cheese croissant brekky. Wow!
View from our breakfast possie |
Watching the hermit crabs to see which ones are the smartest and fastest ( Disclaimer: No cash exchanged hands and no animal or person was hurt in the filming of this photo!) |
Leaving Pulu Maria, we headed past Pulu Blan towards South Island.
Around about this time Greg and Kyle decided it would be pertinent to start tossing the water they were baling out of the canoes over us girls in the front of the canoes. Hmmmmm!
Kylie explaned much of the vegetation that is on the island was also on Home and West Island until the coconut palms took over and killed the native trees and bushes off.
Walking into the island's centre, we were shown a much different aspect of the islands to what is seen on the West Island. This is almost jungle in thickness and humidity.
Climbing upwards, we headed for the highest point of the atoll (9 mtrs above sea level)
Land crab (check out the nippers!) |
This photo below shows the remains of where the Phillipine Army occupied the island during World War II
Making our way down the other side of South Island.

Kylie and Ash's Canoe Safari is a top quality tour and Kylie and Vicki were absolutely fantastic guides for us all. On our last morning we sat with Kylie, Ash, and Vicki in the Club whilst waiting for the plane to arrive and had another enjoyable time with them all again.
The last evening of our trip to Cocos took us down to the beach with some squid to call up the sharks for some nice photos on dusk. These show you just how shallow they swim and how gently nice they are!!!!!
Not so sure Greg would call them nice, but at least he got to hand feed the little guys.
NICE LEGS HEY! |
All the sharks in this spot were black-tips.
No greys came in, but the grey reef sharks are slightly larger than the black tips too.
The depth of water they can swim in is astonishing, and amazingly Greg still has 10 toes on his two feet. Wonder of Wonders!
Maybe they didn't like the smell *lol*
The final photos I managed to get on leaving Cocos were with thanks for the great flying expertise of Michael and I have to say here that the Virgin Flight Crew who stayed at the Bungalows where we were also staying were great people. Pilots Josh and Michael, and Head Stewardess Sandra were nice to chat with a couple of afternoons, and on the Sunday Night we shared the BBQ's and Pondok with these 3 great people and also Brittany and Holly (stewardess staff on the same flight). These wonderful staff of Virgin are true ambassadors for their employers ---- not only nice on board, but equally and genuinely friendly out of uniform - a privilege to have been able to spend the time with them it was.
Unfortunately, we were seated on the right hand side of the plane, and the Islands of Cocos were to the left, but a big thanks to you guys for your efforts :)
All in all, with the tour trips and the friendliness of the local people, Cocos was by far a truly wonderful time and I am also so glad Greg enjoyed the quietness and remoteness of where I spent 4 years of my life.
On that note everyone ....... sleep well and be happy and healthy xoxo
